Last day of September ~ only 31 days until November

Thank you, one and all, for your good wishes. Yes, I had a wonderful trip and delightful visit with my mother and nine of my siblings.

I took my camera but did not take even ONE photo. Can you believe it? I was having too good of a time and just did not feel like spending any of it behind the camera.

I left home in late summer and returned in early fall. It is amazing that September has already come to an end. And guess what. It is only eight short weeks until Thanksgiving Day ~ my favorite of all holidays.

Autumn : A time for sweaters and plaid skirts

This is my favorite season. Dressing smartly for autumn is so easy.

I am wearing on of my favorite outfits in this photo:
a pleated plaid skirt and a taupe turtleneck sweater.

Autumn is a time for classic fashions – warm plaids and simple but elegant sweaters.

Tastefully dressed - simple casual styles are great for a walk in the country or an autumn picnic, or  an afternoon of shopping at the mall.

"Colors take the lead, both in striking solos shades and in the youthful harmony of plaids."
Kerrybrooke fashions by  Sears, Roebuck, and Co.

Jackets are smart with dresses, separate skirts, sweaters, and blouses

Twin set sweaters look sharp with any skirt.

Casual elegance: graceful and stylish for everyday living

Greet each day with style.

Lessons from French Women

I have read and reread French Women Don't Get Fat: The Secret of Eating for Pleasure along with other books by Mireille Guiliano.

The books claim that French women, without dieting, don’t get fat. The truth is, they live a lifestyle of eating small portions, eating very slowly while concentrating on the delightful tastes and textures in the first three bites of a dish, and passing on the rest. They eat meals consisting of a few petite courses.

~ French women don't generally exercise, but they walk every day ~

It is not a diet in a traditional sense, because eating well is part of the French woman’s everyday life. French women pass on snacks and junk foods in favor of regular meals of quality foods which include yogurt, fresh vegetables, seasonal fruits, soups, and small portions of fish and meat. Seasonings and variety are key elements of keeping meals exciting and satisfying.

I have embraced this manner of living, finding pure satisfaction in smaller portions without feeling hungry between meals.

Vintage Camping

~ Kings Canyon National Park ~

I love camping. It's exciting waking up to birds singing, stepping out of the tent (or camper, if you are blessed to have one) into the fresh morning mountain air, brewing a pot of coffee and sipping coffee or hot cocoa by the crackling campfire.

Camping is a wonderful adventure, a great way to create happy childhood memories.

I am flying to my sister's house.
From there we will drive 1,170 miles to pick up another of our sisters.
After that, we will be off to see our mother, driving another 332 miles.
~ 1,449 miles one way ~
~ 2898 miles round trip ~

I love road trips!

I will be gone for several weeks.
I hope you all have a lovely September.

Tastes of Autumn

Autumn is almost here.
Many of us are already eager to begin celebrating the season.
Homes will soon be filled with the aroma of apple pie fresh out of the oven.
It's time to taste autumn's delicious offerings.

Vintage Styles

This week, when reading Jessica’s post Two birthdays, one awesome vintage style novelty print dress,  I came across this wonderful vintage-style blog: Mode de Lis by Lily. This girl is an amazing seamstress! She also has some fantastic vintage blogging ideas, such as in this post: · Polka Dot Day! · . All the fun these girls were having in Lily's Decade Project posts made me want to share a few, shall we say, vintage photos of myself when I was 21 (way back in the 1980s).

How about you?
Do you have any "vintage" photos of yourself?
