Lessons from French Women

I have read and reread French Women Don't Get Fat: The Secret of Eating for Pleasure along with other books by Mireille Guiliano.

The books claim that French women, without dieting, don’t get fat. The truth is, they live a lifestyle of eating small portions, eating very slowly while concentrating on the delightful tastes and textures in the first three bites of a dish, and passing on the rest. They eat meals consisting of a few petite courses.

It is not a diet in a traditional sense, because eating well is part of the French woman’s everyday life. French women pass on snacks and junk foods in favor of regular meals of quality foods which include yogurt, fresh vegetables, seasonal fruits, soups, and small portions of fish and meat. Seasonings and variety are key elements of keeping meals exciting and satisfying.

I have embraced this manner of living, finding pure satisfaction in smaller portions without feeling hungry between meals.
